Sarasota Insurance Agency
SARASOTA, FL – Jan 22nd, 2014 – General Insurance Brokerage, a leading business brokerage service specializing in insurance agencies, facilitated the successful sale of the Al Malins Insurance Agency in Sarasota, Florida last month, the company announced. Wallace, Welsh & Willingham purchased the business directly from the founder, Al Malins himself. The amount of the sale was undisclosed.
General Insurance Brokerage is headed by Marc Greene, a past certified public accountant (non-active) with a significant background as a professional negotiator in governmental negotiations. His background and experience in often very tense and detailed negotiations allows him to add significant value for his insurance industry clients.
“The skill is in knowing how to keep the deal moving forward,” Greene said in an interview. “Things aren’t always just about price.”
Behind the Sale
The Malins sale was a case in point. Aside from the final selling price of the agency, one of the seller’s key concerns was the fate of the employees of the company he had spent a lifetime building. With decades in the business, Al Malin’s employees were like an extended family. It was important to know that the buyer would not promptly lay off his longtime employees and simply move the book of business to another office.
Uncovering this condition was a key element in putting the deal together and finding the right buyer for the business, says Greene. Mr. Malins himself expressed satisfaction with the execution of the sale.
“Greene is a very detail-oriented person,” said Malins. “He paid attention to what was going on, and looked out for my best interests. He made sure I wasn’t being taken advantage of.”
